2021 RTC FITNESS INTRAMURAL OPEN
DISCLAIMER: The Intramural Open is an opportunity to assess your fitness capabilities in a fun, slightly different environment than you are used to. For three weeks, we will provide you all a space and time to do workouts alongside your gym buddies. It is not a reason to be scared, put pressure on yourself or have an anxiety attack. Nor should a workout score affect your self-esteem. These are just workouts. AND IT IS GOING TO BE SOOOO FUN!!!
RTC GOALS: EDUCATE AND INSPIRE
Competition helps with the ‘inspire’ part: the pressure to perform pushes you to train harder; the social boost of dozens of your best friends cheering for you will help you reach a higher plane. Heck, watching your teammates GO is inspiring.
Every year, CrossFit HQ runs an event called “The CrossFit Open“. As always, we take the idea and make it our own. We’re not interested in finding out how fast you can exercise against 400,000 other people worldwide. We ARE interested in helping you push to new levels in fitness, level up your life, and get 1000 high fives from the RTC family.
Can we bring that worldwide thrill home? Can we deliver all the fun of competition without causing any anxiety attacks? We think so.
The Intramural Open is our annual tradition at RTC (and copied by thousands of other gyms worldwide!)
THIS IS HOW IT WORKS
We’ll divide you up into teams, each with a Team Captain led by coaches and a funny name. You can earn points for your team by participating, winning an event, and showing the most spirit during events, and more.
EXAMPLES OF WAYS TO EARN POINTS
+1 Point – Attendance: every member of a team that completes an Open workout each week earns one point. Maximum one point per athlete per workout.
+1 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 at RTC for each workout gets an extra point for their team per gender and per division.
+5 Points (team) – Spirit: The team with the most noise, pride, and PRESENCE on social media each week will receive 5 bonus points.
In 2021, our Intramural Open will have 3 workouts; with several BONUS events planned (mostly virtual), which may take place at starting NOW and going any time DURING the 3 weeks of workouts or up until a week after the last.
Each workout will be announced on Thursday night by CrossFit HQ at 8pm. We’ll complete the Open workouts as a group during Friday Night Lights (other arrangements can be made before the following Monday if you cannot make FNL). Reserve your spot and show up on Friday to participate – each week will have a heat sign up as soon as we know what the workouts are. Your membership gets you into the event (they’re just like regular workouts, but more challenging and fun.)
For some of our members, the Open is an annual measuring stick to test their improvements in fitness.
Our programming has already made a slight shift for to get you READY for the demands of the thjree-week competition!
We’re working on specialty programs available for those who want to improve one or two specific skills, too. In the meantime, if you’re dying to get your first toes-to-bars, or link your pull-ups, tell your coach and book a goal review consult! We’ll get you some 1:1 time!
We’ll have some random draws each week for prizes. The top team will win bragging rights plus loads of swag!
Our focus is on FUN. We want you to participate because it will make you fitter, and you’ll be happy and love life more, and grow and stuff.
